Press Release: WWRY 9th Longest Show

We Will Rock You Continues to Make a Big Noise in the West End:
Officially West End's 9th Longest Running Show
Celebrates start of 8th year and extends booking into 2010

Taking into account the number of new shows which open in London's West End each year it is something to be trumpeted that Queen & Ben Elton's We Will Rock You has officially entered the top ten of longest running shows presently on stage. Shows, that is, not just musicals.

The most recently published list of London's longest-runners has We Will Rock You placed at no.9, sharing the list with such theatre landmarks as The Mousetrap, Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera.

The same official report also attributes the Queen & Ben Elton record-breaker as 'the most successful show of the year (2008) in terms of paid admissions'.

The show continues to play to over 12,000 people every week and to date has drawn an audience of over 4.4 million through the doors of the Dominion.

So, fine cause to celebrate. And celebrate they will, in two weeks time, Monday May 18, when the show producers and creators gather to mark the show's seventh birthday and the start of their eighth year holding down the stage of London's Dominion Theatre. The producers will also announce the extending of the current booking period into March 2010.

The May 18 show is almost certain to enjoy the patronage of some of its most famous makers such as Queen guitarist Brian May and author Ben Elton. The performance will run at the usual performance time of 7:30pm. Bookings at 0844 847 1775. Website for information www.wewillrockyou.co.uk

Performing on the night will be cast headliners Ricardo Afonso as Galileo, Sabrina Aloueche, Scaramouche, Rachel Tucker as Meat, and Mazz Murray as Killer Queen.

But it is not only London which reverberates to the distinctive beat of the show's signature tune, We Will Rock You. March saw a high profile opening of the show's touring version which now runs at Manchester's Palace Theatre before moving on to a further year-long run at theatres across the UK.

Later this week Queen co-creators Brian May and Roger Taylor are in Milan to cast an eye over the casting of the upcoming Italian production which will open later this year. Meanwhile the show continues to play local productions in Germany and Canada, where it has become something of a phenomenon, having been extended 17 times since opening in early 2006.
