Rock Candy: The Making Of 'A Night At The Opera'

The latest issue 12 of retro rock magazine Rock Candy features a revealing new interview with Gary Langan, the studio engineer who worked on Queen’s seminal 1975 album, ‘A Night At The Opera’.

Langan, who went on to have major production success with Buggles, ABC and Public Image Ltd amongst many others, gives a fascinating insight into the working processes behind what many believe to be Queen’s magnum opus.

“They were after an album that was totally eccentric and eclectic,” Gary told Rock Candy editor Howard Johnson. “And they were determined to do everything brilliantly. It was all about pushing the boundaries.”

Over four pages Langan discusses the painstaking process of recording ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in detail, while also examining the interpersonal relationships with the band as they drove themselves to ever greater creative heights. The piece offers a fascinating window into what is truly a landmark moment in rock.
