Cast Announced For Queen And Ben Elton’s ‘We Will Rock You’ 10th Anniversary Arena Tour

Former Coronation Street star Kevin Kennedy and X Factor finalist and West End actress Brenda Edwards are to star in the first ever We Will Rock You Arena Tour, following their previous success in the roles. Kevin Kennedy, best known for his role as ‘Curly Watts’ in the long running soap Coronation Street, will reprise the role of ‘Pop’, a librarian who is stuck in his ‘hippie’ past and is searching to find answers to the end of rock music. Brenda Edwards who rose to fame in ITV1’s talent show ‘The X Factor’ will again play the domineering role of ‘Killer Queen’, Head of Globalsoft, the corporation responsible for the banning of all instruments and musical originality. Kevin and Brenda are currently starring in the West End production at the Dominion Theatre and will join the UK leg of the world tour to perform in Nottingham, Sheffield and Newcastle. They will be joined by MiG Ayesa (Rock of Ages, Thriller Live) who will be reprising the role of ‘Galileo’ after successful international and West End runs since 2005 and Lucie Jones, who shot to fame as an X Factor finalist in 2009 and went on to perform in Les Miserables will perform the role of Meat.

For the remainder of the World Arena tour, which after the UK dates moves to the 02 Arena in Dublin, ‘Pop’ will be performed by stage and TV actor Rob Castell with ‘Killer Queen’ being performed by West End actress Jenna Lee James. Jenna rejoins the cast of We Will Rock You after 5 years in the cast between 2002 and 2007.

Unprecedented success in theatres around the world has paved the way for ‘We Will Rock You’ to make the step into Arenas, where the Rock Theatrical will be performed in front of thousands of rock fans every night. The world tour will see the show visit arenas in Finland, Denmark, Holland, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Turkey, Bulgaria and the UK and Ireland in 2013. Further dates in Japan, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia will be announced shortly.

Speaking about the tour, Kevin Kennedy said: “I’m so excited to return to the We Will Rock You Tour, especially to be a part of the first ever Arena Tour, rocking out to thousands of fans every night. It’s going to be huge!”

Brenda Edwards is equally thrilled: “I love performing as Killer Queen and can’t wait to take We Will Rock You back on the road!”

Lauren Samuels will return to the role of Scaramouche after her run at the Dominion in 2011/2012. Khashoggi will be played by Sean Kingsley who has appeared in Les Miserables, Cats, and Billy Elliot.

The last WWRY UK tour visited six cities across 13 months. The tour sold over half a million tickets, setting and smashing box office records. The London production of the show has recently celebrated its 10th birthday and it is the longest running musical ever staged at the West End’s Dominion Theatre. In 2011 it was crowned the UK’s favourite show at the prestigious Olivier awards receiving the BBC Radio 2 Audience Award, the only category decided entirely by members of the public. The show has thrilled over seven million people in the UK, and over 15 million people in 17 countries worldwide.

The production is written and directed by Ben Elton, who has fashioned a hilarious futuristic comedy around more than 24 of Queen’s biggest hit songs delivered in a show that boasts the scale and spectacle that marked Queen’s live performances.

“This show is all about legend,” says Ben Elton. “We take the legend of Queen and create our own fantastical story of young kids battling the might corporations who want to suppress their individuality and their love of music. They need a hero who can help them in their struggle, and we have two – the dreamer Galileo and the sassy rock chick Scaramouche. Guess who ends up winning?”

On announcing the Arena tour, Queen’s Brian May said: “After our first 10 years in Rock Theatricality, this is the next giant step for We Will Rock You - and the show will feature a brand new arena-size design - a big night out for all!”

With a wink and many ironic sideswipes, WE WILL ROCK YOU is more than just a show title, more than a musical, and more than a rock concert - it is a promise: WE WILL ROCK YOU!

Cast Announced For Queen And Ben Elton’s ‘We Will Rock You’ 10th Anniversary Arena Tour

Anja Gibas

I don't know if I like the new cast list for We Will Rock You because I got a favourite actor of mine and that is Martin Dickinson. I want him to be at the top of the cast list as Galileo not MiG Ayesa because I don't know who he is. And I don't want him in it only Martin Dickinson. The reason I want Martin Dickinson the actor to be as Galileo because he is a brilliant singer and he deserves it if he could have that part. Just give Maetin Dickinson a chance to get that main part of Galileo in We Will Rock You.

John Tully

Is there also a US tour? I live in Northern California. Also, where can I get the ringtone for my Verizon cell phone "I Want to Ride My Bicycle? I had it on my previous cell phone but I can't remember how I got it. Thanks.

We are feeling very neglected "across the pond" here in the states. Please come - we really have enjoyed Queen Extravaganza as well as the Queen tribute performance of some of the WWRY cast performing with the Atlanta Symphony.

Kristina Kendry

Any plans for the tour to include CANADA? WWRY has a great many Superfans here in Toronto. I saw the show 40 times during it's 2 1/2 year run. It was the BEST medicine during times of stress in my life, and we all MISS it so much.

Please add US dates to the tour!

I hope the show will come to Vienna/Austria.
