‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ in half-way lead in Queen lyric poll

London, 11th August 2011 – with more than 2,000 fans having voted already, a lyric from ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ is currently in the lead in the quest to discover the nation’s favourite Queen lyric – but will it still be at the top when the online survey ends on August 22nd?

“Don’t stop me now, I’m having such a good time – I’m having a ball” has taken around 10% of the votes so far, ahead of the second most popular Queen line “My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies, fairy tales of yesterday will grow but never die. I can fly my friends!” from ‘The Show Must Go On’. The rest of the top ten thus far includes lyrics from ‘We Are the Champions’, ‘Innuendo’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Teo Torriate’.

The full results of the poll at www.queenonline.com, which is being conducted jointly by Island Records and HMV to mark Queen's 40th anniversary, will be announced around 5th September to coincide with ‘Be Freddie For A Day’ and the re-issue of the final five remastered albums from the Queen catalogue that are being released over the course of 2011.

Whichever lyric eventually wins through will then be featured in a special 'our inspiration' version of HMV's acclaimed 'my inspiration' brand campaign – running in national press advertising and across other channels including instore, online and social media. HMV's 'my inspiration' campaign launched in September 2006 with David Bowie selecting a line from Syd Barrett's 'Gigolo Aunt' as the song lyric that has most inspired him. Since then well over 250 artists have taken part with their own lyric choices, including such icons as Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Beyonce and Lady Gaga.

To support the activity HMV is also running a ticket promotion for the epic musical based on classic Queen songs ‘We Will Rock You’ at the Dominion Theatre, London. Details at www.hmvtickets.com

HMV's Gennaro Castaldo comments: “I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised that a line from ‘Don’t Stop Me Know’ is doing well – it’s such a feel-good, life-affirming song, but there are quite a few other contenders still in the mix, so it can all change, and I’m personally rooting for my favourite lyric from ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
