OUT TODAY: Brian May & Kerry Ellis “The Candlelight Concerts – Live At Montreux 2013”

I humbly resubmit my assignment for 1/2 credit.

Top 5 lyrics from the first two Queen albums:

1. White Queen (this one was "legal" from my first attempt)

On such a breathless night as this
Upon my brow the lightest kiss
I walked alone
And all around the air did say
My lady soon will stir this way
In sorrow known

I show my students these lyrics when I teach pop music as poetry.

2. My Fairy King (Before Bo Rap, I believe Fred was writing songs about his struggle with his sexual orientation)

Son of heaven set me free and let me go
Sea turns dry no salt from sand
Seasons find no helping hand
Teeth don't shine like pearls for poor man's eye, no more.

3. The March of the Black Queen (Why didn't I list this song among my Top Ten Queen tracks? Ah me!)

Everything you do bears a will
And a why and a wherefore

A strong argument that nothing happens by mere chance.

4. Seven Seas of Rhye (Queen II version)

Fear me you lords and lady preachers
I descend upon your earth from the skies
I command your very souls you unbelievers
Bring before me what is mine

I have always wanted to see this character make this pronouncement in an animated film. Something along the lines of the Heavy Metal classic.

5. Father to Son

But the air you breathe
I live to give you

Tony has two sons, so he can appreciate this. Whenever I hear these lines, I imagine holding my newborn son in my hands and uttering those lines.

I hope I have accounted myself well. Now, onto the next assignment, Wayne.

Tony! Stop sobbing!

Tony Newman

Wayne, we cannot let Jon off so easy. He receives an F for not reading the directions. He has to re-do the assignment for only HALF the credit... The teacher has now become the student... You're on the clock JON! PS, you need to clean your load. It's everywhere... it's even in my ear. GROSS!

Jon, finally!! Stellar as usual. Truly awesome list. But please, play again. I'm curious on ur picks from Queen
& Queen ll. Then we can hit the rest of their catalog.

Sorry, I just reread the previous posts by Wayne and realized I didn't follow directions.

Finished a class set of essay, so I'm ready to join the fun.

Top 5 Queen Lyrics

1. White Queen--pure poetry
On such a breathless night as this
Upon my brow the lightest kiss
I walked alone

2. It's Late--my go-to song when I wanted to partake, but knew I would regret it later
It's late - but it's time to set me free
It's late - yes I know but there's no way it has to be
Too late - so let the fire take our bodies this night
So late - so let the waters take our guilt in the tide

3. Death on Two Legs--Freddie was pissed!
Insane you should be put inside,
You're a sewer - rat decaying in a cesspool of pride
Should be made unemployed
Then make yourself null - and - void

4. Teo Torriate--always makes me misty-eyed
When I'm gone
No need to wonder if I ever think of you
The same moon shines
The same wind blows
For both of us, and time is but a paper moon...
Be not gone

5. Lily of the Valley--more poetry
I lie in wait with open eyes
I carry on through stormy skies
I follow every course
My kingdom for a horse
But each time I grow old
Serpent of the Nile
Relieve me for a while
And cast me from your spell and let me go

Well, that's my five faves. Sorry to keep you waiting, boys. I hope you both appreciate it when I finally shoot my load.

What's next?

Tony Newman

Dang your contests are challenging... OK, not much from Queen's first offering BUT Queen II? Sheer poetry...

Where will I be this time tomorrow
Jump in joy or sinking in sorrow

You won’t understand a word that’s in it
But you’ll write it out again before you die

Tatterdemalion and a junketer
There’s a thief and a dragonfly trumpeter

Water babies singing in a lily-pool delight
Blue powder monkeys praying in the dead of night

She washed and fed, and clothed and cared
For nearly twenty years

Jon will join eventually and be up to his eyeballs in Make-Up work...

Queen ll
1 Son of Heaven set me free and let me go
2 A Little Nigger Sugar then A Rub-A-Dub Of Baby Oil
3 I'm Lord of All Darkness, I'm Queen of the Night
4 I stand before you naked to the eyes
5 Then I'll defy the laws of nature & come out alive

Ok Tony, get poor Jon from his coma.
Let's have some fun!

Ok, because this will be nearly impossible task. Let's do top 5 from 2 albums at a time! Ok Tony?

Tony Newman

Jon must be a very busy man... BUT! He will shine through on this contest... He's an English Major/Professor. He may educate us on some of the meanings... This is a great Top 10 Wayne... Going to take some time. I hope some other fans chime in.

Now I'm here, now I'm here.
Ok Tony, what takes Jon so long?
My next TOP 10 idea is:

Great write up Tony Newman! I too have wondered for some time now is "Stone Cold Crazy" was not a song that pioneered the way for "thrash metal"?

Tony Newman

Wayne, I am THIS CLOSE to officially giving up on Jon. What could he be doing? Chatting with NEW friends on the Kansas Web Site? WTF?

Tony Newman

Glad Brian is still finding ways to continue working... He will FOREVER be my favorite guitarist! Since Smile, he has always been the most melodic, coolest and talented player on the planet. Queen II will probably go down as his MasterPiece! I hope Queen think about about a "one-off" show with Marc Martel in the future. I believe that would bring more happiness to long term Queen fans than Lambert. (Sorry). Back to Brian now. Every Queen album has an amazing "Brian" moment!!!

Here are my top 10. What are yours?
1. Great King Rat (So good the band actually stop playing to applaud)
2. The Millionaire Waltz (I guess I really love everything about this track)
3. Good Company (Holy shite at the magically layered brass)
4. Innuendo (with Howe)
5. It’s Late (Raw, nasty rock n roll solo)
6. Lazing On a Sunday Afternoon (Fancy solo LOVE IT!)
7. Stone Cold Crazy (I believe Queen started “thrash” here)
8. Procession/Father to Son (Brilliant)
9. Death On Two Legs (Wicked pay back)
10. Some Day One Day (Soooo Englishy and Proper)

Hello boys!:-)

Giving Up

It's amazing how quickly Brian can work on a project when he puts his mind to it. Barely 8 months after the gig and they're releasing blu-ray/DVD+CD sets. And sales of this will be pitifull compared to ANYTHING that has the Queen name on it.

And "West End and Broadway sensation Kerry Ellis"? Do me a favour, she's a club singer at best. I hope she calls Brian every day to thank him for her 'career'.

Que linda noticia!

i thought this was queen's website.

This is great exciting news...I just don't understand why the acoustic concert is not being released on d.v.d. and the concert being released on music home video does not have an audio c.d. What a screwy and misleading product. This has been done quite a bit in the music industry for the past decade. It use to not be this way. The home videos would compliment the l.p.s. What in the hell?

Rainbow? Hammersmith? Or has that era of Queen been flushed down the toilet in favour of this?
