Press Release: Queen To Release "We Will Rock You" Mash-Up
ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC SONGS IN ROCK HISTORY GETS NEW LIFE AS "WE WILL ROCK YOU VONLICHTEN” AND CAN BE HEARD DURING THE NFL ON CBS 2012/2013 FOOTBALL SEASON
QUEEN'S BRIAN MAY RE-RECORDS SONG'S LEGENDARY GUITAR PARTS FOR SYMPHONIC COLLABORATION WITH ACCLAIMED COMPOSER VONLICHTEN
Los Angeles (November 13, 2012) - Thirty-five years after its release, QUEEN's "We Will Rock You" is getting new life as a symphonic mash-up entitled “We Will Rock You VonLichten." The song can be heard during the NFL on CBS 2012/2013 football season. The digital track is available today via iTunes in the US - Download here.
A collaboration between legendary Queen guitarist Brian May and acclaimed composer VonLichten, the new song features Freddie Mercury's original vocal tracks against a backdrop of re-recorded guitar parts and a full orchestral score. The result is an epic philharmonic homage to Queen's classic anthem.
“We Will Rock You VonLichten" was born when VonLichten was approached to create a mash-up of the Queen song and "Posthumus Zone (The Theme to the NFL on CBS)," which he wrote and recorded.
"VonLichten is a monster !" Brian May
“Creating the track with Brian was easy," says VonLichten. "'We Will Rock You' is the perfect painting. I simply re-framed it a bit." The new track’s symphonic elements add a forceful and dramatic accompaniment to one of rock music’s most iconic songs.
Queen band mates Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon and the unforgettable Freddie Mercury brought a new dimension to live music. The band has released a total of 18 chart-topping albums and 18 #1 singles, while selling more than 300 million albums worldwide, making them one of the biggest rock acts of all time. They’ve received seven Ivor Novello awards in the U.K., were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003, the UK Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and even received their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in October 2002. The rock legends were recently honored with the Global Icon award at the 2011 MTV European Music Awards and closed the show with a triumphant and stunning medley of hits from their extraordinary musical career. Brian May and Roger Taylor were joined by Adam Lambert on vocals for a musical voyage through their greatest hits including “The Show Must Go On,” “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions.” Queen are, per Guinness, the all-time most successful British band and have sold hundreds of millions of albums.
Helmut VonLichten, a.k.a. VonLichten, is an American composer/artist whose orchestral creations are best described as "Symphonic Rock".
