On April 20th 1992, Roger Taylor, Brian May and John Deacon, the surviving members of Queen, took to the stage at Wembley Stadium for the start of one of the biggest events in rock history, which the band had organised to pay tribute to their former colleague – the incomparable Freddie Mercury. Queen were joined by some of the greatest musical talent in the world to celebrate Freddie’s life and work and to increase public awareness of AIDS, the disease that had prematurely ended his life the previous year.

“The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert”  features many Queen classics in unique performances including: “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Hammer To Fall”, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, “Radio Ga Ga”, “I Want To Break Free”, “Under Pressure”, “Somebody To Love”, “We Will Rock You”, “We Are The Champions” and many more.  Special guests include David Bowie, Gary Cherone, Roger Daltrey, Def Leppard, Joe Elliott, Extreme, Bob Geldof, Guns ‘n’ Roses, James Hetfield, Ian Hunter, Tony Iommi, Elton John, Annie Lennox, Metallica, George Michael, Liza Minnelli, Robert Plant, Mick Ronson, Axl Rose, Seal, Slash, Lisa Stansfield, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Young & Zucchero.

As well as being great entertainment, the concert raised a huge and still growing sum of money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity formed at the time by Roger Taylor, Brian May and Queen’s longtime manager Jim Beach whose charter is the relief of suffering from AIDS throughout the world.  Profits from this release will be donated by the Mercury Phoenix Trust to AIDS charities around the globe.

The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert: The Definitive Edition - OUT NOW!

I was surprised and disappointed that the U2 performance of 'Until The End of The World' was left off this.

If it was on here, a bunch of U2 fans would buy it and therefore contribute to the Mercury Phoenix Trust.

As it stands, they will just look up the U2 performance on Youtube and contribute nothing.

A missed opportunity :(

Hi, is Extreme melody on the new dvd? I bought the 10th anniversary one but they weren't there?

I just bought this. I can't wait to watch it, and feel it through my stereo. One thing I would like to know is "Why did Robert Plant want his version on Inuendo off of the VHS, then the dvd? Did he suck that bad, or what?
I just read that Plant got Best Vocalist of All Time.
Fuck that pit faced, ugly mother fucker!! He can't sing for shit. Freddie Mercury deserves Best Singer, Song Writer, and Performer Of All Time!!!!!
That's just my opinion.
So,....about that song that Plant wanted removed from the vhs, then dvd??? What happened, and why? ? ?

I would like buy this but your website will not let me, how can I buy one thanks

I loved watching the DVD of the concert and I got goose bumps watching everyone sing "We Are the Champions"! The first time I watched it, I was a freshman at Regis College (1991-1992) and watching it again really took me back 23 years!

Frustrating that over twenty years later, we still can't get the full concert. Can't someone in Queen get Robert Plant and whoever else to change their minds? I absolutely *loved* the performance and it's bothered me that I've been waiting in vain all these years to see it again.

is good

Ok I did buy it I dont know the technical sides to much but I was expecting widescreen for fredds sake what on earth is going on?2011 was supposed to be@massive change for fans@we get done over sideways its a joke there was no reason for this unless someone can explain?weres the rare tracks promised since 1999 boxsets?weres all the amazing stuff you guys promised fans?havent you sucked enough juice out of your dying friend freddie whos been dying of aids for the last 20 odd years anything else left to say or to remaster/repeat?kching

Well I've watched most of my Blu-ray today and, while the sound is OK, the picture quality is awful. I sold my 10th Anniversary DVD when this Blu-ray was announced. I knew that this release was an 'SD Blu-ray' i.e. SD upscaled but I'm sure the DVD had better picture quality when upscaled by my DVD player.

Come on Queen Productions, lets have some good releases in 2014! So many projects have been hinted at, never to see the light of day months, even years, later yet we hear Brian talking about working on the DVD of his Born Free gigs with Kerry that have only just finished!!! Put a little effort into Queen please Brian.

It's far from ideal to have something described as definitive when it is clearly incomplete. But when you have lots of artists involved in one concert they have their right to withdraw their performance. Robert Plant has a history for this when he refused to allow Led Zep's Live Aid appearance to appear on the DVD. Record company's can refuse permission too.
If it was described as the complete edition then complaints would be justified.
Having said all that I do wish Queen Productions would concentrate on archive material which has been proposed, even promised, but has not yet appeared. From reading these pages regularly I see so many Queen ''fans'' putting negative, personal rubbish on here. If you don't like something don't buy it!

Yes, I was hugely disappointed by the lack of bonus material on the album reissues two years ago. Yes, I am disappointed by the constant 1980's live material being released on DVD while the 1970's is surprisingly overlooked. Yes, I am disappointed by the lack of a third Greatest Video Hits DVD when there is plenty of material to fill it. Yes, I am still waiting for the fabled archive box set first mentioned about 10 years ago.

BUT, on the plus side, we have Roger Taylor's new solo album and collection The Lot to look forward to. We may get to hear the Freddie and Michael Jackson songs officially. We have a reunion of The Cross in December. And thankfully the Freddie biopic has fallen through... for now.

I really hope there is something special lined up for a Christmas release to reward the fans' patience. Perhaps that remix of Love Kills we heard at the convention?
Fingers crossed.

The show was recorded in SD. It will look better than a DVD because of the professional upscalling and better codecs (BD's codecs are way better than DVD's).
I am sure they did not went to 4K because it is not widespread and the benefit of a even higher upscalling would not make it noticably better than BD.
By the way, 4K is not the highest standard anymore. The first 8K TV was made available at CES 2013 by Sharp.

So, what should I say? Yes, I´m happy that this release was better than the DVD one and the sound on Blu-ray is great but maybe anybody can explain me why they released it in SD and didn´t tranfer it to HD? The picture quality is lousy! Im´very dissapointed - again. 2011 with the missing songs of the re-issue of the Queen albums and now this. Please, guys You can do that much better, can´t you? Queen + - Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert Blu-ray 109 svedish kr
on cd wow

Why is everyone getting so angry? Music, and Queen were all about fun and good times. Chill out, it's only a dvd

Saj ditta

What's the big deal with r,plants innuendo?wasnt that good anyway why on earth everyone's making@bigdeal out of it? glad its out on bluray even though its@year late.@cd set should of been released with this but I guess beach@prequeen wanna still treat us like mushrooms@feed us ....@most times.

I was thinking about buying this, but after HEARING how it willd sound like, i made the decision NOT to buy this.

So you release a "Definitive Edition" with the same VHS edit and now we hear the same BAD audio remix? "with uncompressed stereo and DTS-HD surround sound for the best possible quality" What? Best possible quality for HD surround sound using a upmix from the stereo track?

"Mercury Phoenix Trust Facts" Lazy as Queen Production is, i bet that the facts are the same as those on the 10 anniversary edition DVD. I doubt they bother to update the facts with the most recent facts.

Yes, i'm skipping this release.

"Ten days before Freddie died, Jim Beach, the band's manager, met with him to discuss what could be done with his legacy. Freddie quipped, "You can do whatever you like with my image, my music, remix it, re-release it, whatever "just never make me boring"."

Yes, you're making Queen boring.

In response to certain comments:
Queen are not getting paid for this release. Nor is any of the other artists. This is for The Mercury Phoenix Trust.

I cannot comment on the quality of this release or of previous similar releases (though anyone who has recorded the full show more tan 20 years ago, in tape, obviously has a jewel!), but I cannot understand why some people are so annoyed (though everyone's entitled to have an opinion and to express it): if you think it is crap, easy, don't buy it and don't make Brian, Roger & Co. richer! As for me, even though I do not always agree with everything they do or did in the past (I mean Queen, of course, and people related to them), I will always admire them. And by the way, I remember that some time ago, Brian explained in his website that it is not posible to make a full DVD (or similar technology( release because of the multiple copyright issues involved (artists, management/former management, etc.). Whether it is true or not, I don't know, but it sounds logical to me. Anyway, music for me is about having a good time, and if there are things that I don't like, well, I stick to what I do like, and Queen's music will always be a part of me!! :-)))

Please release this on 4K Ultra HD (2160p) Blu-ray.
