Pre-Queen

‘Garage Band’
Brian May and Dave Dilloway doing guitar/vocal duets. Repertoire included Bo Didley, Wonderful Land, Apache, Flingel Bunt, Bachelor Boy, Windy And Warm, Rambunkshush.

Summer 1963 – UK, London, Feltham, Brian’s Garage
Usual line-up: Brian May (Guitar), Dave Dilloway (Bass), John Garnham (Guitar/Vocals), Richard Thompson (Drums), Tim Staffell (Vocals/Harmonica). Transients: John Sanger (Piano), Malcolm ??? (Guitar)

Rehearsals regularly held at Chase Bridge Primary School Hall (next door to Twickenham Rugby Stadium). Cover versions of Yardbirds, Rolling Stones, Spencer Davis Group and The Beatles. Brian would sing lead vocals on “Yesterday” and harmonies on “Help” and “I’m A Loser”. To save funds, rehearsals would be recorded, erased/re-recorded on reel-to-reel tape on a weekly basis, so no early recordings survive. No Brian May era acetates exist (none were ever cut, though two post-Brian May 1984 acetates were cut).
