A Kind of Magic: Art Deco Vanity Cases Book Based on the Kashmira Bulsara Collection

“A Kind of Magic”, a beautiful book on Art Deco Vanity Cases, is based on the Kashmira Bulsara Collection.

Written by Sarah Hue-Williams, international jewellery historian, gemmologist and author, in collaboration with Peter Edwards, foremost dealer in 20th-century Art Deco  jewellery in London, “A Kind of Magic” brings together the personalities, designers and workshops who produced these creations to life, giving these wonders of imagination and craftsmanship their rightful place in the history of decorative art forms. The book includes specially commissioned, highest-quality colour photographs of 48 fabulous vanity cases - the ultimate jewelled fashion accessories and objects of desire for the super-rich in the 1920s-30s Jazz Age.

Kashmira, sister of the legendary lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury, formed her collection as a special tribute to Freddie’s love of beautiful things.

Capturing the essence of the Art Deco period, the book offers a suitably glittering insight to the social history, fashion and culture of the Golden Age of Glamour, giving it a wider appeal to those interested in the music, art, lifestyles and overall aesthetics of the era.

Kashmira has gifted the collection in its entirety to the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, where it will be one of the highlights of the refurbished jewellery galleries. Freddie would not doubt have taken great joy in the collection and the fact that everyone will soon be able to enjoy it.

All profits from sales of the book will be donated to the Mercury Phoenix Trust.
