QUEENROCK MONTREAL & LIVE AID
Queen will rock you!

“Hello Montreal… long time no see. You wanna get crazy? Come on, let’s do it!” Who can possibly resist an invitation like that? After completing a record-breaking tour of South America, Freddie Mercury and Queen rolled into Montreal in November 1981, with a film crew in tow. Their two-night residency was shot in full cinema format and unleashed on the movie industry elite at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival (entitled ‘We Will Rock You’). The following year it was released to a grateful general public, thus becoming the first commercially available Queen concert film. Now the film has been restored from the original 35mm negative for your regal pleasure!

Plenty has been written about Queen’s status as rock royalty, and their highly polished routine is a genuine pleasure to observe. The band seamlessly weaves together a selection of classics and a batch of lesser-known tracks, much to the audience’s delight. If that isn’t enough to get you salivating, by the end of the concert Freddie is clad solely in a neckerchief and a pair of skimpy tennis shorts! As a nice bonus, the set comes packaged with a second disc featuring Queen’s now-legendary Live Aid performance. This majestic seven-song set effortlessly reinforces Queen’s position at the peak of the rock summit, and fans will also enjoy the ultra-rare Live Aid rehearsal footage (in which Brian May seems to be wearing Freddie’s skimpy tennis shorts!) and the 1982 American TV interview spot. However, if you are strapped for cash, there is also a single-disc edition available, comprising just the Montreal concert. Be warned though, miss out on the bombastic, charitable Live Aid set at your own peril!

Final Verdict:
Movie 8/10
Extras 7/10
‘Classic Queen!’
