The New Sky Arts series, Greatest Guitar Riffs, airs over the course of three consecutive nights: 24th, 25th and 26th of November.

This three-part documentary series unpicks the workings of some of the most famous riffs in musical history, taking audiences on an exhilarating journey that tracks the personal impact of the guitar riff on three legendary guitarists - Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, The Police’s Andy Summers and Heart’s Nancy Wilson.

Episode One

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi pulls back the curtain on the creation of Sabbath’s classic riffs and the creation of heavy metal, delving into tracks including Paranoid, War Pigs and Iron Man.

A special highlight of the episode is the presence of Brian May of Queen, who joins Tony Iommi at his home studio for a memorable jam session. The collaboration between these two guitar legends promises a unique and electrifying musical experience, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans and enthusiasts alike. The Tony Iommi episode of Greatest Guitar Riffs will be broadcast on November 24 2023 on Sky Arts at 10:00 PM.

In the lead-up to the series Sky Arts also conducted a poll of 2000 music fans which saw Brian take 12% of the vote and named 'The Greatest Guitarist Of All Time'.
